Fosters Honey Company is a family business owned and operated by Matthew and Katie Foster. Passion and respect for bees is generational in our family. Matthew's grandfather was a beekeeper for a local company that pioneered the commercialisation and export of New Zealand mānuka honey. When a friend suggested Matthew get into the apiary industry, he jumped at the idea. “We started with a couple of hives and now have around 500.”
Our apiary is run by Matthew, with help from twin brother Jason in the busy season. Care for the bees runs deep and comes naturally to Matthew. “After many years of beekeeping, you know the bees well and can see quickly how they are doing.”
We’re dedicated to producing world-class honey and our craft has come from hard work, dedication and care. This hard work is matched by a natural buzz for the business for both Matthew and Katie. “There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing people enjoy our honey and understand its natural power.”
NATURE’S ARTISANS
Fosters honey is 100% natural and powerful from New Zealand native forests. Our bees do the hard work during flowering season. They collect the nectar and over several days, carefully process it, dehydrating it to bring out the natural sweetness and strength. They store it in intricate cells that are meticulously crafted from wax, which we know as honeycomb. These bees are diligent little workers. Their job complete, we harvest the honey; collecting the honeycomb and carefully extracting the honey. Then we filter it and prepare it for packing. It’s pure and perfect, just as nature intended.
